Replacement Cartridges for the DOULTON® Pour Through Filtration System Easy-to-install Doulton® Super SterasylTM Cartridges 0.5 sub-micron Carbon-Core Ceramic Filters Utilizes 3-Stage Filtration: Reduces up to 99.99% of pathogenic bacteria, organic chemicals, and particulates. Stage 1: Diatom Earth Ceramic Filtration The heart of every Doulton® filtration cartridge is its exclusive Sterasyl element that utilizes the natural properties of highly specialized diatomaceous earth (Kieselguhr), which is extruded and fired into a hollow porous matrix that has a sub-micro pore of 0.5, designed to remove waterborne bacteria. Impurities unable to penetrate through the microscopic channels of the ceramic matrix, such as bacteria, cryptosporidium and other micro organisms, are simply trapped on or near the surface of the ceramic element. This surface may be easily exfoliated with a brush or Scotch® pad. Stage 2: Bacteriostatic Silver Impregnation Impregnation of the ceramic element with silver renders the surface of the cartridge bacteriostatic – that is, bacteria cannot grow on the surface. This ensures that you can change or clean the cartridge without fear of contamination. In contrast to silver impregnation commonly used in activated carbon filters, the small amount (0.07%) of silver in the ceramic element is in a form which will not readily leach out. Stage 3: Extruded Activated Carbon Block Core After bacteria-free water leaves the ceramic exterior it enters through the core of this highly activated extruded carbon block. Carbon is proven to reduce chemical contamination including Chlorine, Trihalomethanes (THMs), and VOCs (volatile organic contaminants). In the process of filtering water through carbon, the water retains its mineral and high oxygen content that insures a spring-fresh taste.
